ABOUT ABOUT

Fort Mifflin has gone to the dogs! We're always dog-friendly but to commemorate the "Dog Days of Summer" we invite you to bring your pooch (or even a suffed animal!) to explore the site and discover a fun, true story of George Washington and a special dog who crossed the battle lines at Germantown in the fall of 1777. Dogs and their people will enjoy the opportunity to play with 18th century games (in air conditioned quarters,) the chance to explore the nature trail and the shaded, riverfront picnic area. Complimentary dog treats for well behaved pups! Story time at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm (air conditioned.) Guided tours (dogs and their people) at noon and 2 pm.

Did you know that the term "Dog Days of Summer" refers to the time in the celestial calendar with Sirius, the dog star, is visible in the morning sky? This generally falls during the hot weather from early July through mid-August. Different sources pinpoint different days for beginning and end, but the term has come to be associated with the hottest period of the summer season.
