ABOUT ABOUT

This is your opportunity to quench your thirst for an immersive history experience and get a taste of life in early 19th century Philadelphia! Join the Regimental Brewmeister and our team of hearth cooks for a unique hands-on experience in early 19th century foodways. Choose an Apprentice position in the kitchen or brewery and become part of the team preparing an authentic meal. At the end of the day, join fellow participants in the Cannonball Tavern to share the results of your labor.

Imagine: The year is 1824 and we are preparing a meal for a visit to Fort Mifflin by a hero of the American Revolution – Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier – better known at the Marquis de la Fayette. It is deep winter and resources are scarce but our team of Apprentices will work with authentic seasonal ingredients to prepare a meal fit for such a scenario. It will include hearty fare and good, spruce beer (a ration la Fayette would be familiar with after his service in Washington’s army!)

Your Apprentice ticket entitles you to an immersive hands-on experience in the brewery or kitchen, robust sampling with seasonal and period-appropriate snacks throughout the day, and the culminating meal shared with all participants in the tavern from 4 pm till 6 pm. Apprentice participants are free to explore all working kitchens and the brewery to expand their understanding of early American foodways.

General public tickets are available and include the opportunity to observe all the activity in the kitchens and brewery, but no sampling.

Guided tours and weapons demonstrations!

Saturday, January 22 from 10 till 4 with the meal for Apprentices extending till 6 pm.

Apprentice tickets must be purchased by 5 pm on Wednesday, January 19 to assure adequate provisions.

A note on Covid Protocols: To comply with the City of Philadelphia's vaccine mandate for indoor dining, all Apprentice participants will be required to show proof of vaccination. Also, to assure a safe experience for all participants, masks will be required indoors (when not eating/drinking) and during all activities producing the communal meal.
